Palomarin Field Station Visitor Center
Located in a charming wood frame building within the Point Reyes National Seashore this center offers visitors an opportunity to view interpreted, scientific research and speak with field biologists as they work.In the main gallery visitors learn about the Center's goals of conservation through science and the importance that the local research has on the study of the entire Northern California area. Nearby, exhibits share information about the field work being done just outside the door. The exhibits contain interpretive graphics that offer information about the different species common to the area, and drawers in a cabinet open to reveal a collection of bird skeletons, nests and food sources. In the Bird Banding Lab, visitors speak with biologists as they band birds, and view tools of the trade. Compelling interpretive graphics show how the health and activities of the local bird populations are indicators of the general health of the local environment.Outside on the viewing deck, interpretive graphics and staff-led programs offer visitors an opportunity to learn about bird anatomy and also about birding in Western Marin County. From the deck, visitors can hike the Fern Canyon Nature Trail to discover native flora and fauna.
