Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve
The Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve is a unique interpretive center located in Grand Teton National Park, which inspires visitors to connect with nature on an emotional and spiritual level. The vision of Laurance S. Rockefeller, conservationist and philanthropist of many of our nation's natural and cultural sites, the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve reflects principles of sustainability and balanced use. Both indoor and outdoor interpretive experiences inspire visitors to experience the power of nature and its restorative qualities. The indoor experience is designed to inspire a curiosity of the natural world, which can be explored on the trails surrounding the site. A series of multi-sensory experiences invite visitors to discover the interconnectedness of natural systems that create the foundation on which life thrives. Experiences that inspire new ways of seeing are meant to instill a sense of awe for the natural world, supporting the overarching message of stewardship for the natural worldAlong the trails, visitors encounter experiences that encourage using different senses to experience nature, through amplified sound, focused views, concentrated smells and tactile examination. These focused multi-sensory experiences relate to the theme of interconnected systems, and also contribute to feelings of inspiration and contemplation. This project involved a close working relationship with Carney Architects in Jackson, Wyoming, to develop a building program that supports the visitor experience.
