Hagerman Fossil Beds Visitor Center
A visitor center comprising both indoor and outdoor exhibits that explore the fascinating study of fossils was designed by The Sibbett Group. The central exhibit is a striking two-story model of the stratified bluffs adjacent to the Hagerman Fossil Beds. The fossilized skeleton of the famed Hagerman Horse stands in the foreground ã flanked, for comparison, by photos of a modern quarter horse and zebra. Across the room, through a glass floor visitors can view an authentic palentological dig reproduced right beneath their feet. In the Paleontology Lab, the latest finds are on view, and guests can see how ancient fossils are extricated from a rock matrix.Outside, visitors taking a drink from the Flood Fountain can also watch how water shaped the land on this raised relief map. The sand box table and traditional research tools are an invitation to dig and discover buried bones. Another outdoor exhibit offers a hands-on lesson in identifying the rocks that visitors will see as they tour the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument.
