 Expo Sketch

The Science and Technology Host Pavilion for Expo '93 tells the story of Korea's development into a modern technological and industrial world leader.

Using the metaphor of roads, visitors journey from Korea's past to the present, and into the future. The exhibits highlight Korea's traditional values as a base from which to explore new discoveries in science and technology.

This metaphor provided a unique way to showcase the country's achievements in science and technology. The Design Team presented Korea's history and future opportunities with exhibits entitled The Flower Road, The Silk Road, The Learning Road, The Cliff Road, The Cross Road, and The New Road.

Mr. Sibbett developed a 9,000 sq-ft immersion environment of a techno-world racing out of control. Visitors enter the Cliff Road to find decades of progress dimly lit with bare wire bulbs. Beyond, an electronic world pulses with promise while a Jumbotron screen flashes inspiring messages for the masses. A factory belches smoke as a car careens off an elevated freeway to nowhere. Travelers learn the lessons of a modern age, then enter the Cross Road to contemplate life as we know it. They then emerge on the New Road to discover a world of possibilities gleaming with appropriate technologies and forward-thinking practices.
