A dynamic interpretive environment was created by The Sibbett Group to increase awareness about the people, resources, land and rich history of Los Altos. The museumÕs orientation area traces Los AltosÕ evolution through a unique mix of interpretive text, photographs and historical objects. Nearby, the Ohlone/Costanoan Indian exhibit comes to life with a tule canoe floating on water, photographic images and artifacts that reflect the tribeÕs symbiotic relationship with nature.Around the corner, other exhibits encourage visitors to hop into a saddle and view rancho life, or set in motion a Rube Goldberg-inspired machine that relays a message about the regionÕs agricultural past. Train buffs of all ages can see and hear a train rumbling through a model of old time Los Altos. The centerpiece of the museum, an airy wooden structure that rises thirty feet above the museum floor, pays tribute to members of the Los Altos “family.” Joseph Cornell-inspired shadow boxes and touch screen monitors linked to a web-based multimedia program enable visitors to discover more about colorful local characters.
